We review the facts, evidence and deadlines. We explain the available options and the difficulties to consider.
We define the work, terms and fees. Once the engagement is accepted, we prepare the relevant next steps.
Is a deadline or hearing approaching? Tell us at the first contact, together with the date you received the notice.
Call the office ↗The answers below explain how we work. Your matter is assessed on its particular circumstances and documents.
The first conversation helps us understand the matter, the key documents and the outcome you seek. We then consider whether further analysis is needed and the possibilities for an engagement. The time and format of the consultation are agreed with the office.
An engagement may include advice, drafting documents, negotiation or representation. Fees depend on the nature, complexity and volume of the work. The services included, payment terms and any costs that may arise separately are explained before work begins.
Prepare a brief account of events and the key documents: decisions, contracts, notices or correspondence. Note the date you received any decision and every deadline or scheduled hearing. If the matter is urgent, say so at the first contact.
Depending on the circumstances, negotiation, mediation or settlement may also be considered. The choice depends on your rights, the evidence, deadlines and the other party’s position. Where appropriate, these options are discussed alongside court proceedings.
A brief description without unnecessary personal details is sufficient at the first contact. For sensitive documents, first agree on the method of delivery with the lawyer. Any materials needed later are identified according to the needs of the matter.
Representation is confirmed after reviewing the matter, the ability to accept the engagement and any potential conflict of interest. The scope of the work, terms and relevant authorisation are then agreed. Sending a message or document does not, in itself, confirm an engagement.
Tell us what you want to resolve and which next step concerns you.
